Shower Time

GLH gives me the most challenging time about washing her hair during our shower time. I guess it's because she resents me not giving her a bath for some time. How long has it been now Babe, 3 or 4 months? I got to get on that.

My little girl is the best about washing up and I promise you, your bath time is soon approaching.

Poop Time

There is something to be said about the appreciation of a child going to the bathroom (potty) and pooping.

This happened once when GLH was 1.5 months. She was a big girl and had a fluke when we thought she understood the concept of going potty.

Well since then she has been sporadically going to the potty and not consistently at all. To add insult to injury, she would only pee on the potty and was afraid to poop. Until that glorious day came, last Friday June 25, 2010.

GLH had her diaper off around poop time and followed her sister to the bathroom, sat on  her potty and tada, she pooped! I wanted to glorify her as she approached this momentous occasion but waited to see if it would happen again.

As I report here this current day, she pooped on the potty because I took her just in time. I left her pull-up off because she refused to put it back on and I should have read the clues. About 2 minutes later GLH dropped part 2 of the poop in the living room. Maybe she will one day experience another successful poop time.

Bonding with Q

I just bonded with my son when he cried out to me. It was 5:45 am and he isn't ready to wake up but he tries to. My other little one does the same thing.

What are they afraid of? What are they looking for?

I don't know but I am right by there side as soon as I can be. I either awake from sleep, rush out the bathroom, or rush up the flight of stairs to see if they are alright.

In this particular instance, Q was fine. He was nestled between a Barney and a PhilaU dog (stuffed animals) and my suspicions were answered. He was awake but in need of a hand so I put my finger out.

With the other hand I covered his moving legs and redirected my attention to my right hand (the one which he was grabbing). With my index finger being gripped, I stroke his little hand with my thumb in a calming and reassuring way of saying, "everything will be alright. I'm here!"

A glaze came over his eyes and he began to fall asleep. He opened his eyes after a few nods but finally knocked out. I had to share this because it just happened and, when I look back at this blog, it will be these times in which I remember my children and the wonderful gift of fatherhood they've given me.

Father's Day 2010

This Father's day will be remembered. I received two cards, several phone calls, and some neat pajamas from my family. We went bowling for the first time as a family where GLH and MPM bowled. My wife and I are pretty regular with it so no need to mention us.

All and all it was a relaxing day and I thank God for my family.

June Sickness

This June isn't fun because Q is teething and G notices that Q gets a lot of attention. Challenging for a stay at home mom and a dad who has the most challenging semester in grad school yet.

As I type this, G is put in timeout again as she cries and makes a scene in order to gain sympathy from wherever. I feel like Super Nanny when I punish her but she is very rude and downright mean to all of us. I know it is for attention but she reminds me of those misbehaved children on the Super Nanny show. I am glad watched it when I did because I am using the same timeout-talk in a soft but stern voice-techniques she uses and it works for the most part. It is just heart aching when G cries until she is red in the face. I'll post a photo at the next outbreak.

Additionally, mom has a cold that she hasn't shaken yet and is infecting 2/3 of the children. Argh!

Besides that, all is well and M graduated from Kindergarten. It was a pretty big deal and we went to Olive Garden. The meal was nice, G was allergic to something, and the server/waiter totally wasn't as attentive as he could have been for a family of 5 with 3 children. Our tip just scraped the 15% mark.

Time to change my cloak for the GradDad one in my back pocket.

Late May update

GLH turned 2 almost a month ago exactly. QNH is almost 7 months. MPM finishes school on Friday June 11th. Our children are growing so fast!

QNH can now lean up with his arms. He is crawling much better now but not that serious yet. GLH speaks in complete sentences, is loud, adventurous with her words, independent (can open the refrigerator and all doors by herself) and loves her blocks her God mother/Aunt gave her.
